(CBS) Investigators closely questioned murder suspect George Zimmerman about whether he followed Trayvon Martin and whether he was in fear for his life in a videotaped recording of a Feb. 29 2012 police interview played in court Monday.

You basically jumped out of the car to see where he was going. That's not fear said detective Chris Serino in the videotape.

Serino the lead detective in the investigation took the stand Monday afternoon. The jury watched the videotaped interview as Serino testified. They also watched a video of Zimmerman's re enactment of the fatal altercation taped by police in his Sanford Fla. gated community the day after the shooting.

Zimmerman is standing trial in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin a Florida teen who was walking to his father's fiancee's home in the community. Zimmerman claims he shot the teen in self defense.

In the Feb. 29 interview tape Serino and Det. Doris Singleton who took the stand just before Serino questioned Zimmerman about his assertion that he was afraid of Martin and didn't want to confront him.

Did you ask what this person was doing out there Serino asks Zimmerman on the tape.

No sir. I didn't want to confront him and it wasn't my job.

On the video the detectives also question him about the profanity laced language he used on a non emergency call to describe suspicious people in his neighborhood f ing punks and these holes.

Zimmerman said he was referring to people that victimize the neighborhood.

On the tape detectives played portions of the call.

You want to catch him. You want to catch the bad guy Serino said. F ing punk can't get away. Did you pursue this kid Did you want to catch him

Zimmerman said no.

Singleton asked Zimmerman again about why he left his car implying the non emergency call painted a different picture than the account he gave her immediately following the altercation. Earlier in the day Monday the court heard an audio recording of the Feb. 26 interview as Singleton testified.

You did not tell me that you said 'Oh (expletive) he's running and you got out of the car at the same time Singleton said on the Feb. 29 videotape. You told me the only reason you got out of the car was to get an address.

Singleton repeatedly questioned Zimmerman as to whether he thought Martin might have been afraid of him.

Can you see how that might frighten him you'd been following him Do you think he was scared Do you think he thought you were trying to hurt him asks Singleton in the video.

Monday evening defense attorney Mark O'Mara was cross examining Serino. Court was expected to recess at 6 p.m. and resume again Tuesday morning with more testimony from Serino.

Canada Day sees Canadians celebrating around the world

Canada Day crowds thronged to Parliament Hill today determined to celebrate the country's 146th birthday with noisy enthusiasm and not a little pride sentiments shared by millions of others in communities large and small across Canada and around the world.

In Ottawa tens of thousands packed the lawns in front of the Parliament buildings for an evening concert featuring all manner of musical styles including pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen indie rock band Metric and country artist Terri Clark among others. They delivered some well received tunes for a birthday crowd that was in the mood to party.

I've heard about Canada a long time ago since I was very small from Congo. I had a dream to immigrate to Canada.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston also addressed the crowd paying tribute to the late Stompin' Tom Connors by massaging the lyrics of his iconic The Hockey Song.

Serenas loss was shocking but not completely unexpected

WIMBLEDON England Five thoughts after still another astonishing upset at Wimble geddon um Wimbledon as Sabine Lisicki beat Serena Williams 6 2 1 6 6 4 in the fourth round Monday to end the five time champion's 34 match winning streak.

This was a sizable upset but it doesn't get the ALL CAPS treatment we gave to Rafael Nadal's or Roger Federer's upsets last week. Williams entered the tournament as the overwhelming favorite but Lisicki is one of the few players with the capacity to beat her. The German seeded No. 23 plays her best on the grass and might have the best serve in the women's game after Williams. At her practice Sunday Williams devoted half her time simply to returning serves. Her instincts were right Lisicki won point after point with aces service winners or easy forehands on the first ball. After playing close to perfect in the first set Lisicki dropped off in the second. Then she played courageously in the third and prevailed for the biggest win of her career.

I just was fighting for every single point no matter what was happening out there Lisicki said. Serena's a very tough player. That's why she is No. 1 in the world. I'm just so glad that I could pull off the win.

NGUYEN Analysis stats quotes and more from Serena's loss

Williams wasn't surprised that Lisicki played so well.

I don't think it's a huge shock Williams said of the outcome. She is a great player. Her ranking has no effect on what she should be. She should be ranked higher. She just has a super super game to play well on grass.

On par with the theme of Wimbledon 2013 what a weird match. Lisicki started this match brimming with confidence. As a friend put it She looks like Boris. Boris Becker that is which is to say a hard serving German who looks thoroughly comfortable on the grass. Hier ist mein Haus She won the first set by serving thunderbolts and taking advantage of slipshod play from Williams.

After dropping her first set of the tournament Williams as she so often does seemed to toggle a switch. She began dialing in her serves and blasting away punctuating her winners with cries of Come on. In barely the time it takes to swig a cup of Earl Grey at teatime she won the second set and was up 3 0 in the third winning nine consecutive games.

The media were just about prepared to put a bow on the match and compliment both players good first set Lisicki Nice comeback Serena when their levels switched places again. Williams missed a series of balls including an overhead shank befitting a club player and Liscki stopped missing. At 4 4 Williams played a shaky service game fighting against any aggressive instinct. As the coaches say she played not to lose. Lisicki took a deep breath overcame a few nerves and served it out. Ballgame.

I definitely had my opportunities and I didn't take them Williams said. I definitely feel like I would try to be aggressive at some points then maybe I backed off a little bit at some points. I just have to know that going forward if I want to be successful I'm never going to do it backing off. I have to play the game I can play. For me that's being more aggressive.

Pity Serena. Williams will surely recall this event as one that got away. She is or was the defending Wimbledon champion and just came off a victory at the French Open. While other top seeds dropped one by one she made it through the first week in top form with Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka out the title was nearly hers to take. Then it all fell apart.

This remains in line with her other recent big losses. At Grand Slams since 2012 Williams has lost to Ekaterina Makarova Virginie Razzano and Sloane Stephens none of whom was a top 20 seed. Their average rankings when playing Williams 55. If you're going to get to Williams get to her early.

Quick stats. If you wonder whether this match was won by Lisicki or lost by Williams look at the stats. Lisicki lost only three fewer points than Williams served more aces (10 7) won 14 of her 16 net approaches and hit 10 more winners (against only two more errors) than Serena. Repeat Lisicki had 10 more winners (35 25) than her opponent who is generally regarded as the most potent ball striker in the history of the women's game.

Also consider this Three times before Monday Lisicki had beaten the reigning French Open champion at Wimbledon Svetlana Kuznetsova Li Na and Sharapova. The winner of the 2013 French Open Serena Williams.

Someone has to win this event. Brackets haven't simply been busted here they're now mocking us. Predicting matches has been a fool's errand. Still they will be providing a trophy this weekend. The best bet to win it for the women Who knows Stephens won Monday to reach her first Wimbledon quarterfinal where she'll face 2007 finalist Marion Bartoli. Petra Kvitova is a past champion. But if Lisicki can come close to replicating the level of play she showed against Williams she will be even bigger news on Centre Court again in five days.

Neymar faces throat operation following Confederations Cup triumph

The Brazil striker Neymar was named as the player of the Confederations Cup after he helped Brazil seal a 3 0 win over world champions Spain in the final on Sunday then said he would need minor throat surgery before his move to Barcelona.

Neymar who has joined Barcelona from Santos for 57m ( 48.8m) won the Golden Ball awarded to the best player in the competition after a vote among the media. Andr s Iniesta of Spain and Paulinho from Brazil were second and third respectively.

The 21 year old Neymar who scored four goals during the tournament said he would have the surgery on Friday before he goes to Spain.

It's a problem that I have my throat always bothers me so we're going to operate to resolve it once and for all he said adding that it was not a serious issue.

He also urged a word of caution to his compatriots following Brazil's demolition of the world and European champions at the Maracan .

Lets keep calm let's keep our feet on the ground he said as Brazil emerged as serious contenders to win the World Cup on home soil in a year's time. We did very well and we are on the right track.

We needed this time to train we get to know each other and to work together and we are much better than we were. We won the title and that was a great end to a great tournament.

Neymar began the tournament with a brilliant strike against Japan added goals against Mexico and Italy then ended it with another superb goal against Spain when he lashed the ball past the goalkeeper Iker Casillas just before half time.

Spain's Fernando Torres who scored five goals and was joint top scorer along with Fred of Brazil won the Golden Boot for having an assist in his four matches while Fred had one assist but played one more match.

Brazil's Julio Cesar collected the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper while Spain took the Fair Play Trophy.

The Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said Sunday's victory showed his team were taking huge strides along the road towards winning the World Cup at home next year.

While Vicente Del Bosque accepted his Spain side were beaten by a better team on the night he also thought Brazil's 26 fouls showed a less savoury side of their game.

However Scolari chose to remain focused on the dazzling performance and could not hide his delight at Brazil's fifth straight win in the competition which they have now won three times in a row.

I don't think I could feel any better than how I am right now he said. I thought that any positive result would be great and to beat them 3 0 that is much better than I imagined.

But I also believe that overall not only because of the score but the way we played we had a very good match. Now I am able to dream that we have an idea that we have a path ahead of us and that we have a good team to play in the World Cup next year as equals with other strong contenders.

Scolari said he hoped that a Brazil victory in the tournament would help bring the country together and while the protests are expected to continue at least he in a sense kept his end of the bargain with a successful campaign.

It was important not just for the football team but the whole country for obvious reasons he said. But as far as the team is concerned one thing that is important is that in the last 30 days we have beaten four former or current world champions France Uruguay Italy and Spain.

We are a team still being formed facing a lot of difficulties and I think this win upgrades the team giving us more confidence. Its something that will make us play in a different way.

Del Bosque congratulated Brazil on their victory adding They were better. We congratulate them. We had a touch of bad luck in the first two minutes of both halves and in the final minutes of the first half but I don't want to make excuses. They were better.

I think we've had a good Confederations Cup. I'll stick with the positive. Our players gave their all.

Neymar and the rest had much more energy and that was reflected in every play. The only thing I was not too happy about was the number of Brazilian fouls but that came because they put pressure on us all over the field. But we have no complaints.

When we look at our track record we can be proud. Today we have been defeated be we won't just sit back and accept it. We will fight back we have good players and I don't see the need to change just because we were well beaten for once.

Brazil defeats Spain to win Confederations Cup

Brazil won a heated matchup of past and present soccer powers boosting its confidence as it prepares to host next year's World Cup.

Fred scored two goals Neymar added another and Brazil defeated world champion Spain 3 0 in the Confederations Cup final on Sunday night as protesters clashed with riot police outside Maracana Stadium.

Brazil a five time world champion beat the reigning world and European champion and ended Spain's 29 game three year winning streak in competitive matches.

We beat the world champions today but we know that the tournament that we will be playing next year will be a lot more difficult Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said. Now we have more confidence. That's what we needed.

'We beat the world champions today but we know that the tournament that we will be playing next year will be a lot more difficult. Now we have more confidence. That's what we needed.' Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari

Fred put Brazil ahead in the second minute Neymar doubled the lead in the 44th with his fourth goal of the tournament and Fred added his fifth in the 47th.

Brazil which won its third straight Confederations Cup has not lost a competitive home match since 1975.

Spain which had not lost a competitive game since its 2010 World Cup opener against Switzerland had a miserable night. Sergio Ramos sent a penalty kick wide in the 55th and defender Gerard Pique was ejected by Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers with a straight red card for fouling Neymar in the 68th.

They were superior on every way Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said. They scored early. This is not an excuse but they had pressure on us all the time.

The champion is back

Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the last two World Cups the Selecao entered the tournament having not played a competitive match since the 2011 Copa America Brazil had slipped to 22nd in the FIFA rankings between Ghana and Mali.

Spain ranked first for the past 20 months is the most accomplished national team of the 21st century winning its first World Cup in 2010 between titles in the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

But in the stadium that will host the World Cup final on July 14 next year Brazil dominated La Furia Roja.

The champion is back chanted the crowd of more than 73 000 people at the renovated Maracana.

It also didn't take long before the fans in a sea of yellow jerseys started teasing the Spaniards chanting Wanna play wanna play Brazil will teach you.

Spain had been unbeaten in 26 matches overall including friendlies since a 1 0 loss to England in London in 2011 and had outscored opponents 69 11 in competitive matches since the loss to Switzerland in South Africa.

But Spain had not played Brazil since a 1999 exhibition and they hadn't met in a competitive match since the Selecao's 1 0 win in the first round of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Fred Neymar dominate

Fred opened the scoring after a cross into the area by Hulk in the second minute. The ball bounced off Neymar near the far post and Fred who had fallen while trying to reach for the cross shot with his right foot while still on the ground.

Brazil added to the lead after Neymar exchanged passes with Oscar and then sent a powerful left footed shot over goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Fred got the final goal from just inside the area sending a low shot to the far corner. Hulk started the move with a pass to Neymar but the striker let it go as Fred came running behind him.

Spain was awarded the penalty kick after Marcelo fouled Jesus Navas inside the area. Ramos who skied a penalty kick for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League semifinals sent this one wide.

Spain's best chance before the penalty came with Pedro Rodriguez in the 41st when he entered the area clear from defenders on a breakaway. His low shot beat goalkeeper Julio Cesar but David Luiz came rushing in and slid in front of the goal line just in time to deflect the ball over the crossbar.

There were protests outside the stadium during the match with police using rubber bullets and tear gas to keep demonstrators from getting too close. A wave of anti government protests has swept across Brazil in recent weeks and many affected the Confederations Cup host cities as demonstrators complained of the costs of hosting the World Cup.

On the field it was a heated match from the start with players from both teams pushing and shoving each other a few times. Even the substitutes got into a shouting match.
